Zambia’s two headline parks in a week, with nothing padded out and nothing driven that could be flown.
South Luangwa is 9,000 square kilometres of the most productive wilderness in the region and the birthplace of the walking safari — which is still the best way to be in it. Flatdogs sits in riverside forest on the banks of the Luangwa, just outside the park, looking across at it. The area is known for leopard and giraffe, and elephants cross the river in front of camp often enough that it stops being remarkable. Two activities a day: morning drives, afternoon and night drives, and walking with fully qualified guides.
Then a flight south-west to the Lower Zambezi, where the character changes from bush to river. Royal Zambezi has three kilometres of frontage on the Zambezi in a Game Management Area bordering the national park, and the activities move onto the water — canoeing the main river and the smaller channels, boating and fishing, alongside day and night drives.
Ten classic tented rooms under thatch and four deluxe suites with private plunge pools, all built on two levels into the riverbank.

Days 1, 2 & 3
South Luangwa National Park
Met at Lusaka International Airport and helped through check-in for the onward flight to Mfuwe, then a 35 minute game drive into camp — which counts as the first activity.
Three nights in riverside forest on the banks of the Luangwa, overlooking the park. Accommodation ranges from chalet rooms and luxury en-suite tents on the riverbank to the Jackalberry tree house, built around three African ebony trees with two open-air en-suite bedrooms and views over a dambo and lagoon.
Two activities a day: morning game drives, afternoon and night drives, and walking safaris with fully qualified guides.

Days 4, 5 & 6
Lower Zambezi National Park
Back to Mfuwe Airport and a flight to Royal Airstrip in the Lower Zambezi, 15 minutes from the lodge.
Three nights on three kilometres of Zambezi river frontage. Classic rooms are safari-style tented under a thatched canopy with large mesh windows, en-suite, each with a private deck; the four suites add a plunge pool, a private lounge and a Victorian bathtub. Wide timber decks run out over the river shallows.
Two activities a day: day and night drives, canoeing on the Zambezi and the smaller channels, boating and fishing.

Departure
Transfer to Royal Airstrip and a flight to Lusaka International for your onward connection. Depending on how your international flight times fall you may need to add a night in Lusaka — we will flag this when we quote rather than leave you to find out.
