Victoria Falls Tours and Safaris transfer vehicle on the road to Victoria Falls Airport

Airport transfers & car hire

Met at arrivals, driven where you need to be, and assisted through every border post between Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana.

Victoria Falls Airport (VFA) is about 20 km from town — a 20 to 25 minute drive, from US$20 per person one way, minimum 2 passengers. There is no scheduled public transport, so a pre-booked transfer is the practical option. We also run cross-border transfers from Livingstone (LVI) in Zambia, about an hour including the bridge crossing and US$35 per person to Victoria Falls town, and from Kasane (BBK) in Botswana, the gateway to Chobe National Park, at US$60 per person to Victoria Falls town. Solo travellers are quoted at the 2-passenger rate or placed on a shared departure where one is running.

Private transfers are charged on a minimum of 4 passengers, then per passenger above 4. A wheelchair-compatible vehicle is available on all Zimbabwe transfers, subject to availability, on the same private-hire basis (minimum 4). Travelling alone on a shared route, you are quoted at the minimum-passenger rate or put on a departure already running — we tell you which before you book.

Typical times: Victoria Falls Airport to town is about 20 km and 20–25 minutes; Livingstone to Victoria Falls about an hour with the bridge crossing; Kasane about 1.5 hours plus the Kazungula border, usually 20–40 minutes; Hwange about 2 hours. The Victoria Falls Bridge toll of US$3 is extra.

The three airports

Which one you fly into changes your visa, your transfer time and often your total cost. Here is the honest comparison.

Vehicles with a driver

For longer trips, a vehicle with a driver usually costs less than a string of individual transfers — and removes the problem of arranging pickups across three countries.

  • Sedans and SUVs for town and airport work, 1–4 passengers.
  • Minivans for families and small groups, 5–10 passengers with luggage.
  • Coaches for conference and incentive groups, 20–60 passengers.
  • Safari-ready 4x4s with rooftop tents for self-drive along the Zimbabwe–Botswana route.
  • Cross-border paperwork arranged in advance — the single most common self-drive failure point.

Wheelchair-accessible van with ramp for Victoria Falls airport transfers

Wheelchair-accessible transport

We run ramp-access vans in Victoria Falls for airport transfers and activity transport. This is unusual in the region, and it is worth saying plainly: if mobility is a factor in your trip, it changes what is possible rather than ruling it out.

  • Ramp-access vans with securing points, for airport and activity transfers.
  • The rainforest paths on the Zimbabwe side are partly surfaced — several viewpoints are reachable.
  • Cruise boats and some game vehicles can be boarded with assistance — we confirm per operator.
  • Accessible rooms exist at several Victoria Falls properties — we will name the ones that genuinely are.

Transfer questions

How far is Victoria Falls Airport from town?

About 20 km, a drive of 20 to 25 minutes. There is no scheduled public transport, so a pre-booked transfer or a hotel shuttle is the practical option. Our driver waits in arrivals with a name board and tracks your flight, so a delay does not mean a missed pickup.

Can I transfer from Livingstone Airport to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe?

Yes — about an hour including the border crossing at the Victoria Falls Bridge. You need a Zimbabwe entry, or a KAZA UniVisa if your nationality qualifies. The driver assists at both border posts, which is the part that trips people up when they do it alone.

How do I get from Victoria Falls to Chobe National Park?

Road transfer to Kasane takes about 1.5 hours plus time at the Kazungula border. Most people do it as a day trip with a river cruise and game drive included; if you are staying on the Chobe riverfront we run it as a one-way transfer. See Chobe combinations.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

We track inbound flights and hold the driver. There is no additional waiting charge for a delayed scheduled flight. If a flight is cancelled entirely, tell us and we move the transfer at no cost.

Is Zimbabwe self-drive friendly?

Reasonably, on the main routes. The Victoria Falls–Hwange–Bulawayo road is tarred and in fair condition, fuel is generally available in towns, and police checkpoints are routine. The two real risks are night driving, which we advise against because of livestock and game on the road, and cross-border paperwork — the vehicle needs the correct permits and third-party insurance for each country.

Do you have wheelchair-accessible transfers?

Yes — ramp-access vans for airport transfers and activity transport in Victoria Falls. Tell us the requirement when you enquire so the right vehicle is allocated to your dates rather than found at short notice.

Can I store luggage between transfers?

Most Victoria Falls hotels will store excess luggage free while you are away on safari, and we can hold bags for guests travelling on our itineraries. This matters on charter flights into Hwange and Mana Pools, which cap luggage at around 15 kg in a soft bag.
